1. Use Research to Select a Relevant and Popular Topic
Answer the public is a great tool for creative content ideas. Input a keyword or phrase and it will tell you what types of questions people are asking Google that are related to that topic.
You can choose a blog topic based on specific questions your audience is searching for or pain points they want solved. The best blog post ideas are the ones that your audience is actually searching for.
Google has a keyword planner tool that is also helpful to find relevant and high traffic keywords and recent search trends to examine. As a beginning blogger, you might consider new and unique angles for blog topics discussed in your niche.
You should also concentrate on finding long tail keywords to help boost your SEO and your page views. Long Tail Pro is an ideal tool to sign up for to assist with this.
With any blog article idea, make sure you research the keyword search volume and competition.
Another keyword and blog topic research tool I recommend is Keysearch. I use this tool literally all the time and it is only $11 a month. If you have the budget though, SEMrush is even better.
Another great place to research for article ideas is social media. Check Reddit for popular topics people are talking about and simply turn it into a blog post!

2. Find a Problem to Solve
Want to become an authority in your niche? Solve a common problem faced by your target audience. An excellent blog topic for beginners is trying to solve a problem for your readers.
For your blog idea, try creating a list of five to ten issues that plague your audience and find different ways to tackle them. Use examples and toss in any social proof that you can find to help demonstrate the effectiveness of your solutions.
Helping people solve their problems is one of the best blog post ideas for beginners. Plus, it can also help you get more page views on your posts since it can pull in more website visitors!
One of the most popular blog topics is problem solving since most people visit websites to do just that.
3. Create a Listicle
One easy lifestyle blog post idea is to create a listicle. A listicle is just a list of points put together so it is easy to skim and provides a lot of information at once.
Here are some listicle ideas:
- 10 Ways to Save Money
- 5 Products that Will Help You Save You Time
- 8 Ways to Quit Your Job
Just figure out a list you can write that relates to your niche! This is easy blog content for beginners since it is so structured. And, the possibilities of subjects for listicles is virtually endless.

4. Be Like J.K. Rowling
Become a storyteller to engage your audience. If you are struggling to think of an idea for your blog, think of a story you can tell. Maybe it is a story from your own life. Or the story of a successful entrepreneur.
Stories offer a great way to connect with people. Show people that there are other people just like them in the world, with similar experiences and viewpoints.
This not only caters to their sense of humanity, but it can also help you reinforce your brand and mission.
Stories make ideal blog content that your readers will love. As you know, reality t.v. is super popular, and that is just real-life stories!
Bonus tip: Use graphics and images in your post to help visually tell your story. Try a tool like Canva to help make that easier.
5. Write a How-to-Guide Blog Post
Another easy first blog post idea for a beginner is a how-to guide. People go to the internet for educational information. They want to know how to do something.
Choose something you know about or are passionate about and write an in-depth blog post telling your readers how to do it.
If your blog niche is personal finance, then write a guide on how to save money at the grocery store. Let your chosen blog niche help guide you in choosing blog topics.
If you run a parenting blog, write a blog post around how you can sooth a teething baby. The more help you can provide to your readers, the more they will keep coming back for more.
Writing a How-to guide on any topic is excellent blog post content for beginners just starting out.
6. Check Out Your Blogging Competition
If you are having a hard time coming up with new content ideas, check out the competition! Unique blog ideas can come from what you see online.
Keeping tabs on other businesses and blogs in your industry is always a great way to stay in-the-know with what’s going on in your niche. Take a peek at your competitor’s blogs, social media accounts, and recent advertising campaigns to find hot blog topics.
I know I love Grace and Silas Moser’s Chasingfoxes.com! If you are looking for lifestyle blog post ideas, look at lifestyle blogs, or personal finance blogs if you need finance topics and post ideas.
Just always make sure that keyword research and SEO is part of your process for picking a topic. You don’t want to pick a keyword as your blog post idea that is very high competition and you don’t have a chance to rank for! I highly recommend taking the Stupid Simple SEO course before you write your first blog post to increase your chances for success.
Another SEO tool you need is Keysearch which allows you to do keyword research easily and much more affordably than many other tools out there.

7. Write a Post that Answers the Question “Why”
Another reason people visit blogs is to find out the “why” of something. So maybe parents ask “Why is my baby cranky.” Or beginning bloggers like yourself ask “Why should I start blogging?”
Write down several why questions related to your niche and use them to craft a killer blog post your visitors will want to read.
8. Write a Review
This blog idea for beginners is ideal for two reasons! First it is a popular blog topic as many people visit google to learn about products before they buy them.
In addition, a review blog post is ideal for affiliate marketing and can help you make money! Just choose a product or service that you are an affiliate for and write a post reviewing that product.
You can write reviews on anything. Books, sunglasses, cars. Whatever relates to your niche and you think your audience will want to learn about!
Even if you aren’t an affiliate for anything yet, writing a review is an easy first blog post to write.
9. Do a Roundup Post
Another great idea for a post is to do what is called a “roundup.” A roundup is just where you take a bunch of similar things and put them in one post.
The best thing to do is a roundup that features other blogger’s. So for instance, you might ask 10 other bloggers to give their best blogging tip and then you put that together into one post.
That way, you can then send the blog post to all the featured bloggers who will most likely promote it on their social media, bringing you even more blog traffic.
You could combine blog post idea #8 with #9 and do a roundup of several products. Like the 10 best coffees you can buy.
10. Interview Someone
Another blog topic for beginners is to interview someone else. By asking someone a list of questions and writing down their responses, you are essentially getting someone to write your blog post for you!
Readers love real-life stories so interviews can be a very popular blog post idea. And again, this type of blog post could help your traffic if you interview someone with a following of their own.
11. Use Research as the Basis of Your Blog Post Topic
Check out industry white papers and other documented sources of interesting studies or facts that you can use to write a blog post around.
Offering valuable content your readers are looking for can provide you with the traction you need to deepen engagement with your brand.
People love reading about facts and figures that help to illustrate an argument. In addition, using facts and figures helps to establish you as an expert, which is an important SEO tactic.
You can also add graphs and charts from the research into your blog post to help engage your readers and back up your writing.
Educate your audience with your blog articles, and you’ll find that growing an online following is merely a matter of giving people what they want.
12. Use Guest Posts for Blog Ideas
If you really can’t think of a good blog post idea, then use someone else’s content!
There are many people out there who want to contribute guest posts to other blogs in order to help build their SEO.
Let someone write a blog post for you and you can publish it on your blog. This is by far the easiest blogging idea for beginners since you don’t even have to come up with the topic yourself.
13. Favorite Quotes
One of my favorite blogging topics for beginners is quotes.
Make a list of your favorite quotes on a certain subject. It could be inspirational quotes, or quotes about parenting. Any subject you like! Just make sure you credit the author of the quote in your post.
Favorite quotes make for easy blog post ideas since you can google and find them.
14. Infographics
Another easy way for beginners to write a blog post is to just feature a visual infographic. Readers love to see infographics with a lot of statistics and data. You can make an infographic the main part of your post and just write a short introduction to it.
The only catch is you need to get the infographic created! You can affordably get someone on Fiverr to create an infographic. Or, you can create one of your own for free on Canva using a template.
Sometimes, there are other bloggers out there with infographics they want to share in exchange for a link back to their site. This is another great free way to source an infographic to create a blog post from.
15. Tell something you’ve learned
Another idea for a blog post is to simply tell about something you have learned in your life.
Maybe an experience you had, or even a course you took. Sharing knowledge, especially from your personal life is topic you can use as a blog post.
Whatever your experience or even skills are, you can turn this into an idea to write about for your blog. If you’ve had a career in marketing then write about marketing ideas. Or, if you’ve just learned a new Yoga technique, write about that!
(If you have a beauty blog, try this list of post ideas as well.)
16. Use Industry Reports for Blog Ideas
Another technique to help you write blog posts is to use industry reports related to your blog niche.
Or, even just an industry that you are interested in would work! You can source industry reports that are already out there, like “The state of web design” or something like that. Pick some details from the report to write about. Just make sure you are linking to the report to provide credit.
In addition, you can also create your own industry report! This is a more challenging thing to write about. It will require some research on your part. (Or you can pay someone else to do the research.)
17. Personal Blog Ideas
As we mentioned in one of the other items above, pulling from your own life makes for some great blog post ideas.
The more you can weave personal stories into your blog and posts, the better! People love real-life experience and personal stories.
So the more you can write about your life, the better. As long as it is relevant and interesting to your audience. In other words, don’t write about your trip to the grocery store. Unless of course you are using it to tell them how to save more money!
When looking for an idea for a new blog post, just think back to your most memorable stories and see if there is something there to write about.
18. Tips From Experts
Another popular blog post is tips from experts. People want to read about what succesful people do in order to be successful.
You can fit this to whatever your niche is. So, if you write about fitness, then make a list of tips from your favorite fitness experts.
Or, if your blog is about business management, make a list of tips from people who are successful in business. It is easy to adopt this blog idea for writing to any subject.
19. Write About Trends
You can use Google’s Keyword Planner and forecaster to see what searches are trending and then write about those.
You can also look at social media sites like Pinterest and Reddit and find popular topics. The point is, writing about trends is always a good idea. It could be trends in fashion, finances, or beauty.
20. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Another idea to write about is to create an FAQ. Just a list of frequently asked questions related to a specific topic.
You can pick any of the topics that are related to your blog, and then make a list of FAQs and their answers. Plus, search engines like Google like FAQs.
21. What I learned From a Month of X
You’ve probably read blog articles like this. Where someone details what happened when they did something consistently for a month or more.
It combines personal experience with educational information and even sometimes a how to guide.
Here are some examples of this:
- What I learned from working out every day for a month
- I used this blogging tool for a month and here’s what happened
- What happened when I stopped eating sugar for a month
There are many options!
22. Mistakes to AVoid
Another blogging topic for beginners is to write about mistakes and failures. Your readers definitely want to know how to avoid making mistakes and causing themselves issues. (Life is hard enough!)
So writing about mistakes made and how to avoid them makes for a great blog post idea. You can write about mistakes you made in your life, or related to a specific subject.
Maybe it’s mistakes made when dieting. Or mistakes in money management. Lots of possibilities to consider with this topic.
23. Creative Ways of Doing/Using X
This can be related to a tool, product, or idea. But you can write about creative ways of doing something that your readers may not have thought of. Or creative ways of using a product.
So maybe “X Creative Ways to Clean Your House Quickly.” Or, “X Creative Ways to Use Your Exercise Mat.”
24. Target a Keyword You Can Rank For
So actually, this should probably be number one in this list! SEO is so important for the health of your blog and the traffic it receives. You should let SEO tactics inform the topics you choose to write about.
You can search for a keyword that has a low difficulty and might be something you could rank for and then write a post about it. Use the keyword research tool Keysearch to find these types of keywords.
25. Take the Positive or Negative on a Topic
Another way to come up with a post to write is to pick a subject and then write something related to either the positive or the negative of that subject. And, for bonus points, choose a popular or trending subject.
So maybe everyone is talking about a new fad diet. You could write a post supporting that diet, or one that is against it.

How to Write your first blog post

Plus, you can go back to your first post and update it whenever you want. It actually helps SEO when you regularly update a post.
I think the most important part of writing your first blog post is writing to help your SEO. Which basically just means choosing a good low competition, high volume (if possible) keyword blog topic. That fits with your niche of course.
That Stupid Simple SEO course I mentioned previously will guide you in the best way to do that.

Tips For Writing Good Content
Once you’ve figured out some new blog post ideas, make sure you follow this list of tips and tricks to make your posts stand out.
Get Visual
Adults, like children, love amazing visuals and imagery. Use images with eye-catching colors and high-quality designs to help break up the text of your articles.
The images will also serve as attention-grabbing hooks when it comes to sharing the blog post on social media accounts.
Craft Titles that Demand Attention
Boring titles and ones that aren’t specific can easily be glossed over. Use eye-catching headlines and curiosity-arousing claims to capture your reader’s attention. (Note: Get specific by using numbers such as “20 Ways To …” or “How This Study Tripled the Number of …”)
Beginning bloggers sometimes forget about how important the blog post title is!
The catchier your blog titles are, the more click throughs you will get. And that could mean the more money you will make!
And, of course, don’t forget to incorporate your target keywords into the post title for your SEO.
Check out my first blog income report to see how I make money blogging.
Keep it Casual
Blog readers aren’t expecting to read college dissertations when they’re on your site; they either want to get educated about a topic, or they want to be entertained.
One way to get more views on your posts is to try to keep your tone light and casual, making for an easy read.
Keep your paragraphs really short to keep blog reader’s attention! And, use transition phrases and words to keep momentum.
Once you’ve used the above tips on crafting your content, you can use Tailwind for Pinterest to get as many shares as you can and build traffic!
Keep it SImple
One tip to keep in mind when coming up with blog ideas is to keep things simple. Keep the copy easy-to-understand. Make sure that you space everything out a lot as well.
Have lots of paragraph breaks, after 1-2 sentences to keep your post readable. And don’t use a lot of big words that your readers may not understand.
Your first blog posts don’t have to overwhelm you or your reader.
Be Personal
Another thing that can make your blog content better is to connect with your readers. Including personal tidbits and stories from your life can make your posts even more interesting.
Even if you are writing a how-to-guide, you can incorporate your personal thoughts or experiences into any blog article you write.
