My Personal Experience with Credit Repair
Many years ago I had not one, but two fraudulent accounts opened that showed up on my credit report. And I had no idea for months and months! Until a lot of damage had been done.
Lexington Law could have fixed this issue for me had I known anything about them at the time. But unfortunately I didn’t!
Someone had opened an account under my name, using my social security number except with two numbers switched in position. In spite of that inaccuracy, it still showed up on my credit report.
The number was almost exactly the same and it was under my name. The crazy thing is, I had no idea! This unpaid account was under my name and on my report for many months before I knew.
The only way i found out was when a collection agency finally called me, and was super aggressive and scary about the money. When I told them it wasn’t my account they accused me of lying!
According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, more than one-in-four consumers (28 percent) with a credit report in the CCP in 2018 had at least one third-party collections like mine on their file.
Had I known about Lexington Law, I could have contacted them and had them take care of it. Plus, I might have found out about it much sooner about the issue if I had been using their credit monitoring and counseling services.
I did end up getting the inaccurate account and delinquencies from it removed from my report. But, it took a lot of time and stress and trying to figure out how and what I was supposed to do. Plus, once I had it removed from my report, I also had to contact the collection agency.
Because of that one account, (and shortly later a second one by the same people), my credit score had dropped all the way into the 500s! Which is very damaging.
Even one small thing on your report that is negative, like a late payment, can cause your score to drop a lot. But a score of 500 will prevent you from doing anything you want or need to.
If you have an issue like this, or something less dramatic that is just an inaccuracy on your report, Lexington Law can work to have the issue fixed for you.
In addition, because they have digital partnerships with the bureaus that the average consumer doesn’t, Lexington Law can repair your credit much more quickly than you can.

Lexington Law Reviews BBB
One downside to Lexington Law is that they have a mediocre rating with the Better Business Bureau. Lexington Law’s rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB.) is a C. Complaints include overpromising on credit score improvement claims and not getting enough results.
However, for any credit repair company, results can vary and depend on the account and individual circumstances. So, it is not the most detrimental sign as to whether Lexington Law can fix your credit issues.
In addition, they seem to address and resolve any complaints raised against them.
If you are looking for a credit repair company with a better BBB rating, Credit Saint is the best alternative.
Lawsuit Against Lexington Law
In addition, another ding against the credit repair company is a current lawsuit against them. In 2019, the Bureau for Consumer Financial Protection (CFPB) filed a lawsuit against them. The gist of it is they are accused of deceptive marketing practices.
Affiliate companies that they own were marketing things like “Rent to own” opportunities when they didn’t actually have rentals. It was just a tactic to bring customers in.
The good thing about Lexington Law’s lawsuit is it is around advertising practices and not the actual work they do or the results they are able to achieve for customers.
How the suit will turn out remains to be seen, but Lexington Law is currently trying to get it dismissed.
