It can be depressing when your house is a mess! It just plain doesn’t feel good. But it can also be daunting to think of spending four hours on your Saturday off trying to fix it.
And the question of whether you should go to the pool with a good book or stay home inhaling cleaning supplies usually gets a quick answer.
But there is a way to keep your house consistently clean without that much effort. Try these 7 habits to keep your house clean the easy way!
1. Clean as you go
When things pile up, it not only makes the house quickly look terrible, but also makes you feel less inclined to clean!
It can be daunting to see a huge pile of dishes from last night’s meal prep. Cleaning as you go keeps your house consistently looking good. A little work here and there keeping things clean will prevent the need to spend hours of effort on our home.
And, it actually requires less work and thought than you think. It is much easier to put an item away right after you use it than to let a pile of 20 items accumulate. One easy way to keep your house clean is to stay on top of it a few minutes at a time.
If you use a dish, immediately put it into the dishwasher. Got a new pile of junk mail? Go through it right away and toss what you don’t want. This one habit can keep your house looking model-home ready with the least amount of effort and time!
Bonus tip: When you do have to spend a little time doing a deep clean at least make it fun. My personal tip that works for me is to put my favorite music on, pour a glass of wine or beer and start cleaning! Cleaning is so much easier and more fun with alcohol and music!!
2. Get everyone in the house involved

One easy way to keep the house clean is to divide and conquer. It should not solely be your responsibility to clean your home. Plus, if one person is never putting things away, it can wreck the cleaning you’ve already done.
Make it a rule that your roommates, free-boarders (your kids), and your significant other put things away and clean up after themselves. Enforce a littering fine like the government does if you have to!
For deep cleans, have a rotating schedule with assigned rooms so that everyone shares the load. Using all hands on deck can help you keep your house clean the easy way.
Keeping the house clean when you work full time can be challenging, but getting help from everyone in the house will make it easier.
3. Take 15 minutes each day to clean
Fifteen minutes is easy right? Much easier than 3 hours at a time. And, taking just 15 minutes each day will not only keep your house consistently looking clean, but prevent you from having to spend several hours at once.
And you would be surprised what you can get done in 15 minutes. Keep cleaning spray handy in the bathroom. In 15 minutes you can wipe down all the major parts of the bathroom so it is sparkling clean and fresh!
If you want to keep your house clean and organized all the time, keep the 15 minute rule a part of your lifestyle.
Bonus tip: Make everyone in the house do 15 minutes of cleaning a day! 15 x 4 means a full hour of cleaning time! An easy way to clean is to make everyone do short stints of it each day.
4. Invest in some helpful cleaning tools

Instead of spending an hour with broom and dustpan or vacuum cleaner, push a button and let an iRobot do the work for you! This is not only an easy way to clean, but also another way to keep your house consistently clean.
The iRobot Roomba cleans hardwood floors and carpet. It self charges and is pretty easy to maintain. The 690 version is on sale on Amazon right now for $279.
While this may sound like a lot to pay for such a small item, imagine how many times over the next few years you can lay on the couch watching t.v. while it does the work for you!
If you are looking for a fast and easy way to clean your house, the right tools can help.

5. Clear the clutter

Clutter will make a house look unclean. Not to mention, it can just make you feel icky to have so much extra stuff hanging around on counters and in corners.
Make sure you have a spot for everything that is tucked away. Try to keep your house organized. And purge as you go. In other words, try not to be a hoarder. If you don’t need it, don’t keep it.
Try these four tips on how to reduce clutter!
6. Keep cleaning supplies and tools handy
Make sure each room has its own set of supplies within easy reach. It is so much easier to quickly clean off the bathroom counter when scrubbing bubbles or whatever your favorite cleaner is, is right there.
Deep cleaning your vanity can be such a quick and easy process! My go-to is to move everything (ie beauty supplies) to one side of the sink. Quickly spray down and clean the open side.
Then move everything back over to the clean side so you can spray down the other side. Spray and wipe the inside of the sink and the faucet. Redistribute your items neatly on the counter and you are done! This literally takes all of five minutes.
Five minutes once a week and you will never be embarrassed when a neighbor stops by out of the blue!
7. Keep up with your laundry

Okay I have a bad habit of throwing dirty clothes in a pile in the corner. It’s easy, but it quickly makes my room look terrible!
Make sure you have a super cute hamper to put all your items in, preferably with a top so you can’t see the mess inside. And get in the habit of doing a load of laundry as soon as the hamper is full.
It is possible to keep your house clean the easy way! Keep up with these 7 tips and you can have a clean, clutter-free house without too much effort!
