Looking for fun things to do at home right now? I can’t imagine why! We are collectively stuck during this quarantine. And, we are collectively bored.
From working remotely, to hanging out in the evening, we all have to stay home if we want to stay safe.
But there are some fun things to do at home to make this quarantine less boring. From old-school, to brand new, these budget buys and fun activities will help you beat the quarantine boredom blues.
Books, books, and more books
My number one pick for making quarantine less boring is a book.
Getting lost in a page-turning, suspense novel, or a thought-provoking literary classic is an ideal way to pass the time.
Plus, it will engage your brain and improve your ability to focus, a skill your iphone and ipad may secretly be stealing from you! Books have the ability to transport you, so even though you are stuck at home, reading a book can help you feel like you aren’t.
Here are a few top picks to help pass the time:
Pretty much any book by Harlen Coben is a page-turner. But you should start with this one, which was one of his earliest ones and one of my favorites.
Of course Agatha Christie is a name you’ve heard before. But, you may think because she wrote books a long time ago that it isn’t something you want to try.
If you haven’t read an Agatha Christie novel, you must! They are exciting and always keep you guessing.
I’ve included this link to one of her most famous, which is actually #8 on Wikipedia’s list of all time best sellers, but honestly you could choose any one of them and be happy.
Don’t forget the brain building and thought provoking literary classics! Wuthering Heights meets that criteria, and includes an exciting romance, making it another book to help you beat the quarantine blues.
LG 43″ Smart Tv
If you have a tv that is a few years old, now is the ideal time to upgrade!
We are all stuck in the house and watching a smart tv is something fun you can do at home that will certainly help make quarantine less boring. Upgrade your tv to a smart tv that streams all the services like Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+ for the kids.
You can also stream a ton of available channels with the LG Smart TV, making it possible to completely ditch cable if you want to save money.
There are a ton of smart tv options out there, but if you are going to buy I think it is worth a little extra money to go with LG, or Sony, or Samsung so you know you are opting for the best quality and shelf-life.
If you don’t want to opt for the cost of a new smart tv, you can buy this Roku ultra-streaming device instead. You can make your old t.v. brand new again by giving it the smart tv capabilities you want, but save a little money doing it.
You can stream a TON of services with this one little guy and break the boredom while you are stuck at home. Hulu, Netflix, HBONOW, Disney…the list goes on.
Roku Ultra lets you stream free, live and premium TV over the Internet; right on your TV. Dual band wireless provides an easy and instant entertainment connection when you are looking for things to do when bored at home.
Fire TV Stick
Another streaming option, the Fire TV Stick easily connects into your tv and streams your favorites, from Hulu to Netflix or Disney+ and many more.
Plus, at just $39.99 it is an affordable option. And it is actually the #1 best-selling streaming device! Whether you choose a new smart tv, or a Fire TV Stick to upgrade your old one, some kind of streaming capabilities is a must-have to make the quarantine less boring.
Two birds, one stone. Working out will alleviate quarantine boredom while making you healthy, while making you feel better, while making you get one step closer to that body you’ve been hoping for!
So, don’t delay on this quarantine-blues-busting activity! While it may not be the most fun thing to do at home, it will keep you from being bored and help you manage stress.
Resistance bands like these are excellent for toning that booty and legs, and these come with online workout videos to show you how to use them.
Of course, you should also probably get this super stylish water bottle to stay hydrated post-workout.
For in-home workouts, I also recommend ClassPass which is now offering virtual classes anywhere in the country streamed to your home! I use ClassPass and love that I can switch up from Purre Barre to Yoga to Spin and keep a variety in my workouts so I don’t get bored with them.
Jigsaw puzzles and board games
I know, maybe a jigsaw puzzle seems a little old-school. But try it.
You may have forgotten that working on a puzzle can actually be a mind-absorbing and challenging task that passes the time quickly. It is one of the fun things you can do at home that is often overlooked.
Another activity that doubles as a time-passer and a walk down memory lane is an adult-coloring book. Not only is it a great stress-relieving activity, but it is a nice way to share some quality time with the kiddos by all sitting down to color.
Board games are another way to, well, beat boredom! And another top choice of fun things to do at home with the kids.
Plus, it gets everyone to put down the iPhones and iPads for a bit. If you are looking for fun things to do at home, don’t forget about the childhood basics like games. Monopoly and Clue are some of my favorites.
organizers for your house
Ok, maybe this one isn’t exactly a fun thing to do at home.
But it does pass the time and I’m sure it’s something that’s been on your to-do list for a long time that hasn’t been getting to-done.
You are stuck at home, might as well make it the best environment possible! Clear out the clutter, and organize your stuff, your home, and maybe your life!
Try these organizers to help you do it:
Hope this list of fun things to do at home helps you make it through the quarantine!
